March 5th, 2000How they moved those beams? I don't know. All I know is that they did a great job. They completed more of the roof than I thought would be done. Once again, beating my expectations. Not only were all the beams placed by hand, but no trusses were used at all. Each beam was installed by hand on a 12/12 pitch roof. We also had the steel I-beams installed. When we submitted our plans, the county required extra structural support for the gable end with the large windows. So steel I-Beams were needed. Actually, everyone we speak to says that they are overkill. But, when the first class 6 hurricane comes through, at least the beams will still be standing.
The porch beams were installed and look great. We need to have one of our concrete columns modified since the concrete people placed it incorrectly.
This will be done once they pour the slab for the A/C units and the water treatment system. I think our builder is having as much fun with this as we are, if not more. He recently visited a log home company in Florida and I think
he will be building more of them.
We've had dozens of people slowing down along our street to see the house. One lady stopped by and said she's been watching the construction since the logs were delivered.
She is interested in building a log home in upstate Florida. Are we trend setters or what!
Next week they will sheath the roof with plywood and we have already selected the shingles for the roof. We went with a midnight green shingle color, it's going to look beautiful.
