December 5th, 1999We received all the paperwork back from the county regarding our notice of commencement. This allowed us to move forward on our foundation plans. The Foundation company (R L Geck Concrete) went to the site and asked for a "Corner Survey". So we had to send out our survey company (Triangle Survey) to survey the four corners.
On Tuesday, November 30th, they started excavating for the foundation. The Footers had to be installed in the
foundation pad. The footers are where the load beams will placed to properly support the weight of the house. Durring the job construction, Roland, the owner of the R L Geck,
noticed that the survey dimensions were not the same as the foundation demensions on the blueprints. After checking all the paperwork,
he realized that the survey crew used the dimensions of the house (32x25x32x25) not the dimensions of the foundation (32.4x25.4x32.4x25.4).
The foundation is 4 inches out on each side. This is because our logs are 8 inch logs, and that the dimensions on the house are based from the center
point of the walls (8/2 =4). But he caught it in time to fix it, but not in time for the inspections. So, we failed the inspections. Monday, we
hope the survey team can get out there to get a new drawing to Roland by Tuesday morning, and we hope to have a new inspection by then.
If possible, we hope to start the stemwall construction on Wednesday.
On the issue with Southland Log Homes and the Electrical Groove. We received a fax from our Sales Rep. saying that only the dovetail homes
come with a groove and that Southland never grooved the logs for the other styles. Yet we have paperwork which states differently. hmm.
We will have more information, next week! |
