November 5th, 1999
As you can imagine, we have been waiting for this day for a long time. Originally scheduled for January of 2000,
we moved up our delivery date at our builders request. Our October 28th delivery date was moved forward to November 5th due to delays
in obtaining our building permits.
Excited is hardly an adequate word to describe how we felt. When we arrived on site at 7:00 AM, one truck was already there, along with the company who
was creating our foundation pad. The truck that arrived first carried no logs, just plywood and other wood products.
We watched as 12 dump trucks dumped a combination of sand and clay to create our pad. Then we watched the "front loader" operator
push and pull that sand into our one foot high foundation. Twelve truckloads to make a one foot high pad.
Charles and Michael, from R & R enterprises (our builders) were there to unload the logs and Mark Dettmer our Southland Log Homes Representative
was there as well to catalog all the items arriving. Charles and Michael arranged for the forklift rental, and the delivery of other items needed for the unloading and storing
of the logs. They also made arrangments for a foundation crew to come in next week to lay the slab and crawlspace stem walls.
Mark Dettmer inventoried each palette of wood and logs and made notes as to any damage. There were a few items damaged, but Southland provides several "extra" logs. We regret that
we had to refuse delivery of the windows. We noticed many of the had scratches and chips in the paint. Mark noticed that the truck carrying the
windows did not have them covered, this may have led to them getting damaged. We have some pictures of the way the truck arrived
if necessary.
The smell of Pine was in the air. Wood and Logs lay on the ground around us. Charles and Michael staked our "exactly" where the house will be placed, and it is perfect.
We are excited that things are starting to progress again. This Saturday we will be returning in hopes that the foundation crew has started their work.
